How do I track the traffic I'm getting from Google Base?

Print
You can track your traffic from Google Base by adding tracking information to your URLs. There are two easy ways to set up tracking URLs. Which option you choose will depend on how your site is designed. Please see Methods 1 and 2 below:
  • Method 1

To change a URL like http://www.example.com/item.html to a tracking URL, add ?source=googlebase to the end. The URL will look like this:

    http://www.example.com/item.html?source=googlebase

  • Method 2

If the URL already has a question mark in it, just add &source=googlebase to the end. Your URL would change from:

    http://www.example.com/search.cgi?q=exampleitem

    To:

    http://www.example.com/search.cgi?q=exampleitem&source=googlebase

Your web server should already support this formatting without any special changes. Once you've added source=googlebase to the URLs, you'll be able to look for source=googlebase in your web server logs. If everything works properly, this string will appear each time a Google Base user clicks through to one of your items.
Note: After creating your tracking URLs, please test them in a web browser before including them in your data feed to verify they link properly to the specified pages.
