Greek burgers? That is what the family said when I thought up the idea on the way home from Michigan.
We had good food all weekend, but I was really needing to bite into a juicy hamburger. Yet, it was hot & I was still a little stuffed from all the food we had over the 4th of July weekend.
I had the thought while I was driving in the hot sun, that maybe a Greek Tzatziki sauce might give a burger a light, fresh taste.
As we fleshed out the idea, we turned it into a Gyro type of dish. We put burgers on top of a pita, then piled tzatziki sauce, tomatoes & onions on top. The result was amazing! I was even surprised that my youngest, with the picky taste buds, really liked it too (and no catchup)!
We did this on the fly with some pre-made burgers and a pre-made Tzatziki sauce, but we will redo this one soon with a good homemade sauce. Here is the quick overview:
Ingredients:
6 - Hamburgers
6 - Pita's
12oz - Tzatziki sauce
1 - Large tomato, sliced
1 - Medium onion, sliced
Directions:
Grill the hamburgers to medium rare. After letting them sit for 5 minutes, place a burger on top of a pita. Layer the Tzatziki sauce, onions and tomatoes. Always add a little more Tzatziki sauce, then enjoy with a light red wine.
